Kitesurfing Kalpitiya

Windchimes kiteschool located in Vietnam Mui Ne wrote a cool post about The Spot in Sri Lanka. You can find the article HERE. The nice thing is that the seasons are opposite from each other. That means if you are looking for your next kite destination, kitesurfing Kalpitiya might just be your thing but than mainly at the -still quite undiscovered- Kappalady lagoon!

Kitesurfing Kalpitiya, what is it like?

Well with consistent winds blowing every day at our flatwater lagoon from the beginning of May till the end of October the Kappalady lagoon distincts itself from the big Kalpitiya lagoon. In the Kalpitiya lagoon the wind is also blowing but because of how the lagoon is situated the wind can get pretty gusty.
Kitesurfing Kalpitiya should be on your list when the wind is coming from the north. Which is from around December till March. Besides our Kappalady lagoon Sri Lanka is still a very good destination when you like to go on a kitesafari.

Kitesurfing Kalpitiya is not just well known for it’s big lagoons. Actually a big part of the western coastline is during this time of the year perfectly suited to go on a multiple day trip. And thats what we are doing, we go on downwinders for multiple days from the south to the north covering a distance of about 400km! Along the way you will find all types of different conditions making it interesting for everyone who will come along.

Ofcourse after being so active we shouldn’t forget our inner man with some decent food. And that’s what we have, local Sri Lankan dishes, BBQs, seafood, meat, vegetables and fresh fruits, you name it we have it!

We work together with two different resorts providing you with a high quality stay. Surrounded by nature and directly at the kitesurf spot Sri Lanka in Kalpitiya at the Kappaladi lagoon. Take a look at the accommodation we have to offer and BOOK directly via us.

Spot location

On one side we have the Kappaladi flatwater lagoon and on the other side seperated by a piece of beach the sea. What makes this spot perfectly suited for a lot of different kitesurf disciplines whether that is freestyle, freeride, waveriding or foiling.
